Who we
work with
Our main markets are rail, highways, marine and offshore. FTE is also an approved structural steelwork supplier to our clients in the MoD and Environment Agency, Water and Wastewater.
By marrying practical fabrication and installation experience with advanced design capabilities FTE ensures clients enjoy the full benefits of manufactured construction.
There’s less disruption and greater certainty over project costs and timing.
The FTE Intelligent Integration approach can be readily deployed across all markets sectors with a demand for a structural steel specialist.
Better project management means faster, more reliable manufacturing and installation, delivered though a proven design and production process.
Environment
At FTE we recognise the importance of protecting these biodiverse habitats and rivers during our work activities. Healthy rivers are a crucial factor in mitigating the effects of climate change and strengthening our ecosystems and biodiversity resilience.
When working in these environments it is crucial that the works are completed first time, efficiently and safely so the environment is returned unharmed and undisturbed as quickly as possible. The FTE “Intelligent Integration” approach does just that, minimising the time to survey, scope, design, fabricate and install structures in these highly sensitive environments. One accountable person, across every project stage and all delivered in-house.
Our Environment sector expertise includes new structures and bridges across and adjacent to waterways, including the River Thames, River Avon, and Port Creek. Our projects have included flood defences at various locations including Lymington and port, coastal and offshore environments. Our work at Northstowe involve the creation of access structures for a local community biodiversity area using techniques that avoided the requirement for ongoing intervention and maintenance within those established habitats.
Protection and enhancing wildlife schemes include otter pathways under the A303 and Kittywake nesting structures offshore. Other works have included the provision of specialist lock and sluice gates along with trash screens and grills to prevent watercourse pollution.

Highways
FTE supports Highways England, local authorities and main contractors with specialist steel projects from survey, design, fabrication and installation including new prefabricated footbridges and overpasses and repair and refurbishment of existing structures
The team expertise includes the provision new footbridge/bridleway construction from small spans to those in excess of 40m and steel U deck underbridge structures. Solutions also include new pedestrian ramp and staircase replacements and complete removal, offsite refurbishment and reinstatement of bridges in addition to in-situ steelwork strengthening works and repairs.
FTE is on the BCSA’s Register of Qualified Steelwork Contractors (RQSC) for buildings and is on the BCSA’s bridge works register. FTE Managing Director is on the BCSA’s Bridgeworks Conference.
FTE is also accredited under National Highways Sector Scheme 20 and LANTRA and is accredited to over 200 product codes through the rail industry’s RISQS system allowing work on Network Rail and Transport for London’s infrastructure. Essential knowledge, experience and accreditations when delivering new highways projects on or adjacent to existing rail transport infrastructure.

Marine & Offshore
FTE has delivered multiple marine and offshore projects. These include buildings, ramps, pontoons, slipways, bridges and lock gates, top marks, fender panels, dock extensions, dolphins, brows, Artificial Nesting Structures and a tidal gauge. These installations must function with complete reliability in extreme environments.

Rail
FTE works with both infrastructure owners and operators and their main contractors. We hold RISQS accreditation for all aspects of steelwork including fabrication, installation and design.
Infrastructure Owners
FTE delivers major project works including bridges directly for Network Rail and TfL and for main contractors.
Services include building from new and repairing or replacing existing structures. For repair works we offer an emergency responsive call out facility to rapidly bring damaged structures back into full operation.
Adopting standardised bridge designs allows us to build up stock for rapid project deployment across the country. FTE fabricated metal structures have also supported the expansion of tram networks including bridges and footways.
Operators
FTE delivers fabricated steel solutions including depots, buildings, bridges, walkways and canopies for train and freight operating companies.

Water & Wastewater
Four-Tees Engineers (FTE) first entered the water and wastewater treatment sector over 30 years ago undertaking a wide spectrum of specialist water and wastewater-related steelwork projects.
Our solutions include debris screens, the provision of elevated steelwork platforms for specialist machinery and equipment, walkways, and safe access for monitoring, and operational inspections.
Completed new build projects include facilities for Southern Water at Sidlesham with Osborne and at Chichester with 4D a consortium of United Utilities, Costain and MWH Treatment.
In ongoing plant maintenance and operations FTE has completed substantial programmes of safety enhancement and improvements across Hampshire and Sussex. This activity has included inspection, scoping, design, detailing and installation across multiple sites for the provision of new walkways, staircases, safe access, guarding and edge protection measures.
