Specialist In-House Design: A crucial part of FTE’s Intelligent Integration approach to reduce risk and provide greater certainty

Four Tees In-house design team is a crucial part of the FTE Intelligent Integration approach to remove risk and provide absolute certainty.

Our design team are currently progressing ten project designs for multiple clients ranging from highway bridge deck replacements, footbridge refurbishments, RNLI launch facilities, pier and marine structures and complex strengthening and repairs to existing structures. The design services offered are much broader and comprehensive than the steel structures we are best known for, covering reinforced concrete, geotechnical, temporary works, FRP, scoping and investigations. A one stop shop with one accountable project manager.

FTE Design & Engineering Director Ben Burney commented “At the start of every project a comprehensive survey and buildability review identifies potential challenges, anticipating and addressing issues before they arise. This upfront planning combined with early design and construction integration minimises the risk of unexpected surprises, ensuring a smoother and more predictable project timeline. To illustrate, we analysed a range of projects delivered with and without intelligent integration. The results showed an average cost variations of less than 5% in projects with integrated planning compared to nearly 50% in those with fragmented delivery.

For me, this is highlighting the value of choosing a specialist design team that understands the key cost drivers and collaborates closely with in-house fabrication and installation specialists. Our approach minimises project risks and delivers the certainty that all our customers seek.”
