Four Tees Engineers (FTE) are always up for the challenge of solving problems and reducing project risk when working on or near the waterside. Completed port and harbour projects have included new wharf structures, dolphin units, berthing fenders, new and refurbishment of lock gates and tidal gauges.
FTE’s objective is a perfect first time fit with no variations and reworks an ‘Intelligent Integration’ process outcome developed through our learning and best practice from working within busy operational ports including Portsmouth, Southampton, Sunderland, Harwich and Shoreham and as far afield as Antarctica.
By way of example at the Portsmouth Ferry Port FTE detailed, fabricated, and assisted with the installation of a 70-tonne dolphin unit. The Dolphin was fabricated off site in one piece before being transported by barge and lifted into place. The off-site fabrication greatly reduced disruption in the port and helped our customer reduce time on site. At Harwich International Port FTE undertook detailed design, supply and installation of access platforms and footbridge links to the new piled berthing dolphins to the DFDS ro-ro ferry berth.
On the Associated British Ports Southampton Port Berth-34-35 Fenders project FTE detailed, fabricated, and installed seven 26 tonne steel fender panels to support the fitting of large pneumatic fenders for berthing of roll on – roll off vessels. To minimise onsite work, the fender panels were fabricated off-site and delivered in two halves for welding together before the completed 26 tonne units were transported and installed to the berths.
Harbour lock gate improvement projects have included The Renewal of Shoreham Harbour Lock Gates and the Refurbishment of Port of Sunderland Lock Gates.
At the Port of Shoreham FTE detailed, fabricated, and supplied a set of new lock gates. The new gate structures were fabricated on the waterside near our fabrication facility and shipped to the site for installation. The Sunderland Port scheme was repeat business for FTE and involved the repair and refurbishment of a second set of lock gates. The existing gates had suffered storm damage leaving just one set of operational gates protecting the port from further adverse weather conditions. FTE work included the removal and repair to the lock gate steelwork structure, preparation and painting and the installation of new gate timbers.
For the Rothera Wharf Rothera Research Station Antarctic FTE detailed and fabricated almost 1000t of steel components that were shipped to the Antarctic and assembled to form the new wharf structure for the Rothera research station. Once fabricated the components were trial assembled at a build site local to our offices to both ensure fit and to enable the build team to gain experience in a controlled environment.
FTE create steel structures using an end-to-end design, fabrication and installation process that cuts out disconnects and conflicting priorities. Solutions can then be manufactured, installed and maintained efficiently and without complication.
